Eerie Idaho

Hmm-- THE difference?

Almaty has higher mountains.

Boise appears to have a golf course (have never seen it but the photo seems to show one).

Both have raptor breeding centers.

Boise has more Mormons-- but you can't see them...

And some of the peaks in the Tien Shan range are still unclimbed! Green with envious humors...

More drab, Soviet-era tenements in Almaty?

I'm so ignorant of the rest of the world. I didn't imagine Kazakhstan having such tall buildings. Shame on me.

Steve can probably confirm or disprove my strong suspicion that Almaty has many more tall buildings than Boise. Both cities have noteworthy connections to the world of raptors and falconry.

More tall buildings, bigger, and older (as Fort Verney). Nor is it as drab as most former Soviet cities. I'd live there! (Probably before Boise-- sorry Bruce).

My "drab" comment comes only from the evidence of buildings in the picture. :-) Your descriptions elsewhere provide a more color picture, Steve!
