Tendresse etc

Just came across this marble rendition of Ganymede and the eagle by Berthel Thorvaldson. Bloody lovely, and winningly dodgy with it.

Beautfiul indeed ...and nowhere near as dodgy as the illustration from Rubens used in the wikipedia page you pointed to!

Yep. The Rubens is appallingly, teeth-grittingly, turn-awayingly embarrassing. It's got all the vices and none of the virtues of those gloriously dodgy covers of 1960s sci-fi magazines...
